How long will it take to receive my canopy?

Accepted Answer

Each canopy is custom made to your specific frame, size, fabric, and color, so lead times typically run 0 to 5 weeks depending on the season. If your canopy is in stock, it ships in as little as 2–3 business days. You will receive a shipping confirmation with tracking details once your order leaves our facility.

How will my canopy be shipped?

Every canopy ships in a heavy-weight cardboard box with all attachment hardware included. We use standard ground freight and most shipments include tracking once the label is created. We recommend inspecting the box before signing off with the carrier. If you notice damage to the packaging, note it with the driver before accepting the shipment and contact us right away.

What is the warranty for my canopy?

All Under the Sun Canopies come with a limited warranty: 5 years on standard fabric and 7 years on premium fabric options. Both cover defects in materials and workmanship under normal use, including delamination, seam failure, and premature UV degradation in typical marine environments. The warranty does not cover damage from improper installation, physical abrasion from frame contact, or storm damage. Contact us to file a warranty claim.

I'm not sure what size or style I need. What should I do?

Start by checking your lift frame for a manufacturer label or nameplate. These are usually found on one of the main vertical posts or along a horizontal cross member near the water. Common brands include ShoreStation, Hewitt, ShoreMaster, FLOE, Craftlander, Beach King, and Max Docks. If the tag is missing or unreadable, look at the overall frame design. How do I clean my canopy?

Accepted Answer

A mixture of mild detergent and water is an effective cleaner. Use caution with any type of cleaning solution, as some may cause a negative chemical reaction with the vinyl coating, leading to premature degradation or discoloration of your canopy.

How do I install my canopy?

Accepted Answer

Under the Sun Canopies can be installed in a similar fashion as your previous canopy. There may be slight variations, but each canopy comes with an instruction sheet to answer any questions. Full installation guides are also available on our website.

Question 7

How much does a canopy weigh?

Accepted Answer

Most Under the Sun Canopies weigh between 55 and 70 lbs when packaged for shipping. This includes all attachment hardware and packaging materials.

What is the difference between laminate and PVC-coated material?

Accepted Answer

The primary difference is how the layers are bonded. Laminates are made by pressing or rolling separate material layers around a base cloth. Over time in high-UV and high-humidity marine environments, those layers can begin to separate and peel. PVC-coated fabric is made differently — a liquid PVC compound is applied directly to the base fabric and bonded using heat and pressure. The result is a permanent bond that resists delamination far better than laminate construction, which is why we use PVC-coated fabrics on all of our canopies.

How does wind affect the fabric?

The looser the fabric is attached to the frame, the more it flutters in the wind. Continuous movement — known as wind whip — causes fabric fatigue and eventually leads to tearing or seam failure. Without UV inhibitors, the material weakens faster and becomes brittle. To minimize damage, always keep your canopy tight and secure. PVC-coated fabric resists wind whip much better than laminated fabrics due to its stronger construction.

What is the difference between supported and unsupported curtains?

Some boat lift manufacturers include a horizontal support rail that runs along the bottom perimeter of the canopy frame. If your lift has this lower rail, your curtains are considered supported — the rail holds the bottom of the curtains in place. If your lift does not have that lower rail, curtains can still be installed and work well in most conditions. These are called unsupported curtains. Without the lower rail anchoring them, unsupported curtains are more susceptible to wind movement, so heavier fabric is often recommended.

How do I know if my lift is supported or unsupported?

Look at your lift's frame below where the canopy sits. If there is a horizontal bar running along the bottom perimeter of the frame — essentially a lower rectangle of tubing below the canopy — you are supported. If the frame just has the four corner posts with nothing connecting them at the bottom, you are unsupported.
